🔷 Open Call Announcement
The Maritima Art Residency (Art Made Cultural Association), in collaboration with the Institute for Research in Environmental and Marine Science (IMEDMAR - UCV), is pleased to announce an open call for applications for a four-day open studio residency as part of the International Art and Science Program (IASP) in the Valencia region. The residency will take place from September 4 to 7, 2025. The program is Supported by EU-CONEXUS, MONCOFA Ayuntamento - Cultura.
🔷 Residency Environment and Facilities
The program offers an organized workspace in a natural park reserve, connecting the beach vegetation zone, watershed, and sea, with necessary zones for work that artists will have 24-hour access to. The institutions will organize workshops with scientists at the bio-marine research laboratory, collaborative days with researchers and the audience on-site, studio visits by curators and art professionals, culminating in the final exhibition organization at at Claustro hall of the San Carlos Borromeo building (1760), of the campus of the Universidad Católica de Valencia. In the historic-cultural center of Valencia.
🔷 International Representation
Additionally, the final works will be represented in France in 2026.
🔷 Interdisciplinary Focus and Participants
The residency at IASP provides an interdisciplinary experience across multiple art mediums (new media, visual arts, engraving, ceramics, sound art) and fosters an international network involving artists (including those from POUSH (Paris)), scientists (bio marine and biological researchers), artisans (from Valencia and France), and curators.
🔷 Grant Coverage
The grant covers the three-day residency at Hotel-Camping and mobility expenses, but does not include materials and living costs.
🔷 Selection Process and Deadline
The Curatorial Committee of the program will handle the selection. The deadline for applications is 15th of July 2025.
🔷 Documents to Submit
Please submit the following documents with your application:
- CV (maximum 5 pages)
- Four photographs of your works or links to videos. Please include the title, year, medium, and size or length of each work. A short text describing the work may also be included.
- Professional social media profiles (if any)
- If applicable, you may submit 2-3 copies of exhibition catalogs or published materials.

Festival’s Artistic Framework
The program invites artists, curators, researchers and others working within the field as well as the public to explore new ways of living and the fragility of ecosystems through innovative ecological initiatives. Participants will develop projects that emphasize solidarity and collective practices aimed at restoring life, creating alternative realities where harmony with nature becomes possible.
Key Components of the Program
Research and Collaborative Projects
Artists will work in an open studio in nature, engaging with the flora and fauna of the Mediterranean coast. They will be encouraged to continue their artistic research, creating elements of installations and performances in collaboration with scientists and representatives from other disciplines, deepening their understanding of biodiversity and sustainable development.
Public Engagement:
The program will foster dialogues between artists and the community by organizing a two-day festival at Natural Park based open studio space and a final month-long exhibition at an institution to showcase these interactions and raise awareness about environmental protection.
The goal of the program is to create a dynamic creative community that actively engages with society and fosters dialogue about nature, culture, and contemporary art while promoting environmental protection and the preservation of biodiversity along the Mediterranean coast of Spain.
